China Education and Research Network (CERNET) was built in 1994. It was originally supported and constructed by Chinese government; and the Ministry of Education is responsible for its overall management. Tsinghua University and other top universities are responsible for the construction and operation of the national backbone. CERNET has since developed into the largest national academic Internet in the world. It has been an integral part of education informatization and the national informatization infrastructure. CERNET is the experimental base for the next generation Internet research in China. It not only carries out the fundamental research of underlying Internet technology and architecture, but also establishes a testbed for experimental research, which has made significant technical breakthroughs.
CERNET takes the lead in providing advanced Internet services for teachers and students in colleges and universities of China, cultivating the first batch of Internet users, supporting the early development of Internet applications in China, and making significant contributions to the development of China's higher education and scientific research.
CERNET has established collaborative relationships with many other national academic networks, numerous international academic associations, institutions and famous enterprises in the field of Internet. All these collaborations promoted international academic exchanges and the development of Internet technology.
CERNET’s annual conference is held once a year, which is organized by Management Committee of China Education and Research Network, undertaken by CERNET Network Center and CERNET Expert Committee.
