CERNET2 BACKBONE NETWORK

Since 2003, CERNET has teamed up with more than 100 universities to participate in the China Next Generation Internet (CNGI) demonstration project. This project has built a high-performance 100G pure IPv6 architecture with more than 10 million IPv6 users. The following year the largest CNGI-CERNET2 backbone network in the core network of CNGI demonstration network was opened.

In 2016, the CERNET2 update phase began, which promoted IPv6 network scale deployment. The construction of the CERNET2 network has achieved breakthroughs in the key technology fields of next generation Internet, and has become an important infrastructure for advanced digital research, major applications and support for industrial developments. CERNET has also played an exemplary role in the promotion of large scale IPv6.
