2020-2023 CERNET experts leading the Tsinghua team joined with 23 research and education institutions in 14 countries to carry out "Joint Research on IPv6 Network Management: Research Development and Demonstration".

April 2020 CERNET team of the Network Research Institute collaborated with Pacific Wave of the United States to apply for a five-year collaboration project with the National Science Foundation of the United States. Approval of the project has been received.

September 2019 CERNET expert Professor Jianping Wu was elected as a foreign academician of the UK Royal Academy of Engineering in 2019.

September 2015 The third meeting of the Sino EU high-level dialogue on humanity communication was held in Brussels, Belgium. At this meeting, due to the close and solid collaboration between CERNET and GEANT for more than 10 years, Vice-Premier Yandong Liu and European Commission Commissioner of Education, Culture, Youth and Sports Nauf o Lauchech jointly witnessed the signing of the Memorandum of Long-term Cooperation between CERNET and G?ANT on Information Infrastructure for Educational Research, which established a new phase of 10Gbps. 2015 CERNET, GEANT and China Unicom jointly signed the China-EU 10Gbps circuit lease contract, which is valid for 10 years.

2012-present CERNET, Internet2, GEANT and other national education and research networks jointly plan to build an international science project--Global Future Network Experimental Facility.

2012 China-U.S. bandwidth was upgraded to 10G to support the Sino-US gene combination big data transmission project.

2012 Signed a cooperation agreement between CERNET and UniNet, a Thai academic network.

2011 Signed the Sino-US high-speed interconnection cooperation agreement between CERNET, Indiana University and Internet2.

2011-2016 The TEIN4 project as the follow-up project of TEIN3 started, with the number of partners increasing to 23, and backbone bandwidth upgrading to 10Gbps. CERNET took part in this projects.

2011-present ORIENTplus started as the follow-up projects of ORIENT.

2007-2011 TEIN3 Project started as the follow-up projects of TEIN2. The number of partners increased to 13, the bandwidth was upgraded to 2.5Gbpd. With the connection of Mumbai, the number of main nodes has increased to 4.

2010 CERNET and GENI (Global Environment for Networking Innovation) signed a cooperation agreement on "Equipment and System R&D, Platform Interoperability", and both parties will carry out cooperative research in the field of information and communication technology.

2008 SAVI working group was established, leading to the completion of a total of 21 Internet RFC standards such as RFC4925 and RFC5210, which promoted China's major breakthroughs in formulating IETF international standards.

2006-2010 ORIENT project supports education and research collaboration on academic networks in China and Europe.

December 2006 CERNET-GÉANT bandwidth was upgraded to 2.5Gbps.

January 2006 Chinese Minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Guanhua Xu and EC Information Society and Media Commissioner Rutin signed a joint statement on China-EU High-Speed Network Infrastructure Strategic Cooperation and Its Major Applications, on behalf of China and the EU on December 12, marking the full start of China-EU collaboration in research and development of the next generation Internet.

March 2006 ORIENT: Connecting Academic Networks in China and Europe project started with the support by the Chinese government, the European Commission and European partners.

December 2005 With the support of the Chinese government and the European Commission, CERNET has opened a direct link with GÉANT (pan-European Academic Network), with the bandwidth of 622M.

2005 Signed a memorandum of cooperation with GMRE (Global Medical Research Exchanges, LLC) and GEO (Geographic Network Affiliates International, Inc.).

2004 Signed a memorandum of cooperation between CERNET and Korea KOREN on the interconnection of academic network lines between China and Korea.

January 2004 The European Commission launched the project of TEIN2 (Trans-Euro Asia Information Network), which aimed to provide a high-speed information network infrastructure for Euro-Asia collaboration projects that demand high capacity of connectivity. There were 10 national academic networks participating the project including CERNET as the participant from China. TEIN2 was a 4-year project from 2004 to 2007. The backbone network of TEIN2 had a bandwidth of 622Mbps and three nodes located in Beijing, Hong Kong and Singapore. Tsinghua University was chosen to manage and operate the TEIN2 backbone network.

September 2003 CERNET-JANET bandwidth was upgraded to 45Mbps.

2003 Signed the CERNET and HARNET interconnection upgrade agreement.

August 2002 CERNET-JANET bandwidth was upgraded to 2Mbps.

July 2002 CERNET, as the Chinese implementing agency of the "Next Generation Internet China-Japan IPv6 Project", signed the basic agreement and subsidiary agreement of the project with the Japan Information and Communication Network Industry Association CIAJ.

2002 Chunzheng Wang, deputy director of the National Planning and Development Commission, and Katsusada Hirose, the deputy secretary of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan signed a memorandum of understanding on the "Next Generation Internet China-Japan IPv6 Project" in Tokyo, Japan.

March 2000 CERNET signed a memorandum of cooperation with UCAID, an alliance of universities for next generation Internet research in the United States, and signed an agreement on the interconnection between CERNET and the high-speed academic network Abilene, a high-speed academic network of universities in the United States Internet2, and opened the Sino-US 10M line.

1999-present Participated in Asia Pacific Advanced Network (APAN). Since 2001, served as the vice chairman, chairman and other important positions of APAN. Worked with partners to establish an experimental environment for high-speed interconnection of academic networks in the Asia-Pacific region and promote the international education and research in the Asia-Pacific Cooperation.

October 1998 CERNET was connected with the JANET (British Joint Academic NETwork) at 512 kbps bandwidth. Vice Premier Lanqing Li and British, Prime Minister Tony Blair attended the opening ceremony held at Beijing Ancient Observatory.

November 1996 CERNET and DFN (Germany academic network) established a direct connection with the bandwidth of 64 kbps.

1995 China and the United States network established a direct connection with the bandwidth of 128K.
