2020

Mar.During the COVID-19 period, CERNET Network Center officially released the global academic resource sharing platform-CARSI, which simplified the application resource sharing process between universities in China and other NRENs.

Feb.CERNET issued “The Letter to All Users” to convey the determination of CERNET network support is getting into “wartime management" and CERNET will provide high-speed, smooth, secure and reliable network services and information support for teaching and scientific research.

Feb.CERNET, taking advantage of the Internet and technology, has given priority to collaborating with video conference service provider - ZOOM, to quickly launch a large-scale zoom video conference service for teachers and students in colleges and universities.

2019

Nov.The general office of the Ministry of Education decided to establish a new CERNET Management Committee and issued “The Notice on the Foundation of China Education and Research Network (CERNET) Management Committee” The Management Committee is headed by the government officers from the Ministry of Education and composed of relevant departments, bureaus and university members.

Nov.The 26th Annual Member Conference of China Education and Research Network-CERNET and the exhibition of the 25th anniversary of CERNET construction was held in Hangzhou, China.

Sept.CERNET professor was elected as the Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering.

Aug.The top-class global conference on the field of network communications-ACM SIGCOMM2019 was held in Beijing, which is the first time Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) Special Interest Group on Data Communication（SIGCOMM）meeting held on the Chinese mainland in more than 30 years.

Jul.CERNET professor was elected as the chairman of APAN.

2018

Aug.Notice of the general office of the Ministry of Education on implementing the “Action Plan for Promoting the Scale Deployment of Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6)” was issued by the Ministry of Education. It is proposed that by the end of 2018, China Education and Research Network will be upgraded to support IPv6 access, and the number of users can reach 10 million.

Jul.CERNET expert delivered a speech on the program of CCTV-1 “VOICE”, entitled “A new era of Internet in China”.

2017

Dec.“IPv6 convergence transition technology and application based on stateless translation” won the first prize in the Technological Invention category of science and technology of the China Institute of Communications.

Nov.CERNET and Pilot National Laboratory for Marine Science and Technology (Qingdao) signed the “Supercomputing Internet Strategic Collaboration Agreement” to provide 100G bandwidth access services.

Sept.The expert of CERNET became the inductee into the “Internet Hall of Fame” in 2017 of the Internet Society-ISOC.

Jun.CERNET provided 100G bandwidth access services for the National Supercomputing Center in Wuxi.

Oct.The expert of CERNET won 2016 CCF Wang Xuan Award.

Jun.National Development and Reform Commission ratified the project "IPv6 demonstration network for education field", the second phase of CNGI-CERNET2 project was officially approved.

2015

Dec.The expert of CERNET was elected academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering.

Sept.CERNET and GEANT signed the “Memorandum of Long-term Cooperation between CERNET and GÉANT on Information Infrastructure for Educational Research”, which established a new phase of 10Gbps and developed a 10 year collaboration plan.

Aug.The annual "Next Generation Internet IPv6 Technology Innovation Project and Competition" was jointly held by CERNET national network center and CERNET.com.

2014

Nov.The 21st Annual Member Conference of China Education and Research Network-CERNET was held in Beijing, and the exhibition of the 20th anniversary of CERNET construction was held in Tsinghua University.

Nov.At the 21st Annual Member Conference of CERNET, the support plan of CERNET next generation Internet technology and application innovation was announced in Beijing. Since 2015, the plan has invested 20 million yuan per year, mainly to support teachers and students of CERNET member universities to carry out practical activities based on next generation Internet technology and application innovation.

2013

Dec.CERNET completed upgrading and expansion: China's first 100G Internet backbone network and the first 100G wavelength optical fiber transmission network.

Apr.The expert of CERNET was elected member of IETF Internet Architecture Board (IAB).

2010

Nov.The 79th Internet Engineering Task Force-IETF 79 meeting was held in China for the first time.

Jul.The expert of CERNET won the Jonathan B. Postel Service Award issued by ISOC.

2008

Dec.China National Development and Reform Commission hosted the CNGI periodicity summary and achievement report meeting in CERNET Network Center, and held the achievement exhibition, which was rated as one of China's top ten scientific and technological progressions in 2008.

Jun.IETF approved RFC5210: the first Chinese as the first author of IETF international standard for experimental Internet.

May.The official IPv6 website of Beijing 2008 Olympic Games was opened and it is the first IPv6 official website in the history of Olympic Games.

2007

Jul.IETF approved RFC4925: the first Chinese as the first author of the IETF international standard for non-Chinese coded information.

2005

Dec.The CNGI-6IX was established: The first China next generation Internet International/domestic interconnection center.

Sept.CERNET network center won the bid for the operation and management of TEIN2 backbone network primarily supported by European Commission. This is the second generation Trans Eurasian information network.

2004

Dec.The construction of CNGI-CERNET2 was completed. CNGI-CERNET2 is China's first large-scale Internet backbone network using pure IPv6 technology. It was rated as one of China's top ten scientific achievements in 2004.

2003

Aug.Eight Chinese government agencies organized the implementation of the CNGI demonstration project. CERNET then carried out the construction of CNGI-CERNET2/6IX.

2002

Feb.CERNET-MBone was opened: China's first access to international multicast backbone network.

2001

Jul.The construction of NSFCNET was completed: China’s first next generation internet academic trial network (IPv4 / IPv6).

2000

Sept. The construction of DRAGONTAP was completed: China's first switching center connected to the international next generation Internet.

Mar.China CERNET and U.S. Internet2 officially signed collaboration and interconnection agreement for the first time.

1999

Sept.CCERT was established: China's first network security incident emergency response team.

MayCERNET-6Ren was opened: China's first IPv6 trial network access into international networks.

1998

Apr.CERNET-6Bone was opened: China's first access to international IPv6 test network by tunnel technology.

1996

Mar.IETF approved RFC1922: Chinese as the first author of Internet international standards (Chinese coding) for the first time.

Feb.CERNET has become one of the four ISPs with an international connection license.

1995

Nov.The CERNET backbone network was established. This was China's first national Internet backbone network using TCP / IP and DDN dedicated lines. The CERNET demonstration project won the second class prize for science and technology progress of China in 1997.

Aug.SMTH was opened: the first BBS site in China.

Jan.China Scholars Abroad was published: The first electronic publication in China.

1994

Nov."CERNET Management Regulations (Trial)" promulgated by the former State Education Commission: China's first national computer Internet management measures.

Aug.The State Planning Commission approved the proposal of "CERNET demonstration project", and CERNET construction was started.
