ACM SIGCOMM19
The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) is the world's first scientific and educational computer society. Since its establishment in 1947, it has become the world's most influential professional academic organization in the computer field. It currently has more than 100,000 members in more than 130 countries and regions around the world. The A.M. Turing Award selected by ACM is recognized as the Nobel Prize in the world of computer science. Since 1987, the ACM (Association for Computing Machinery) SIGCOMM (Special Interest Group on Data Communication) meeting has been held once a year and has been held for more than 30 sessions. The conferences are held in rotation in the United States, Europe and other regions. In recent years, with the development of China's Internet and technological advancement, China has become one of the council countries of ACM.
On August 19-23, 2019, the ACM SIGCOMM2019 conference was held in Beijing. The conference was hosted by Tsinghua University. The conference affairs group of more than 70 Tsinghua teachers and students was formed to organise the conference. CERNET experts and engineers participated in the organization of the conference. The meeting also coincided with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of SIGCOMM. The preparation time took one year long to present an exceptionally grand occasion. Mr. Vint Cerf, the father of the Internet and the Vice President of Google, congratulated the 50th anniversary of the establishment of SIGCOMM. Nearly 1,200 researchers and students from all over the world in the field of network communications participated in this conference. Qikun Xue, academician of the China Science Academy and vice president of Tsinghua University, attended the opening ceremony on August 20 and delivered a speech on behalf of Tsinghua University. Professor Jianping Wu, academician of the China Engineering Academy, CERNET expert, and professor at Tsinghua University and Professor Wendy Hall, from the University of Southampton and member of the Royal Academy of Engineering, served as co-chairs of the conference.
Opening Ceremony of the Conference
Topics of the conference covered a wide range of network technology and applications. Thirty two high-quality cutting-edge research reports were held. Speeches were divided into ten topics included: new ways of Internet operation, network transmission and congestion, network measurement, establishment of a new physical layer, formal network analysis, new solutions to old problems, network applications and NICs and switches.
Speech of research reports
Students from all over the world produced 43 posters for display and ran 19 sample demonstrations. The student research contests and hackathon events held during the conference were fiercely competitive. Many students from the Institute of Network Sciences and Cyberspace of Tsinghua University actively participated in it and achieved excellent results.
Closing Ceremony
For decades, SIGCOMM, as an open platform, has provided a bridge for global computer network scholars, researchers and students to understand the latest Internet technologies and applications. The holding of this conference has promoted the exchange of top talents in the global computer network industry and academia to China, and also promoted the international exchange and cooperation between the academic community and the industry.
