Chinese-European Networking Symposium

The Chinese-European Networking Symposium was held in Shanghai Everbright International Convention and Exhibition Center from December 9 to 10, 2004. The theme of this activity was advanced networks and broadband solutions. The conference was jointly approved by the European Union, the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Education of China. The Symposium was hosted by CERNET Network Center and organised by Shanghai Jiaotong University, the main European partners were European Commission IST, Atos Origin Sociedad Anonima Espanola and University Libre de Bruxelles.

This large-scale high-level exchange activity was the EU China Bridge Project (EC bridge project) in the field of information network under the EU Sixth Framework Plan. As an important part of the EU bridge project, the event provided a platform for exchanges and collaboration in the field of advanced network research, network products and network technology between Europe and China. The China-EU advanced network technology seminar mainly discussed and exchanged the future technology development status and direction of advanced network and broadband network, as well as the research trends and development trends of related applications, promotes excellent technologies and applications, and presented the latest trends and development status of new network technology in the symposium.

The conference invited the EU Information Society and European large and medium-sized manufacturers in the field of network technology and application to participate in the conference, to exchange and discuss network application, technology development and prospects with Chinese experts in the field of network technology and application. About 400 people attended the conference, including 100 representatives from Europe. A total of 30 Chinese and European manufacturers participated in the symposium.

Mário Campolargo head of research infrastructure, DG infra F4, European Commission; Jacques Babot, head of E-work, DG infra F4, European Commission, Lou Jing, Department of Science and Technology of the Ministry of E ducation,Wenjun Zhang, vice president of Shanghai Jiaotong University, and Chunni Nie, director of Shanghai Science and Technology Commission, delivered keynote speeches at the opening ceremony, and fully affirmed the prospects of cooperation between China and Europe in the field of network technology and application.

After two days of meetings and exhibitions, more and more Chinese research institutions and universities had learned about the Sixth Framework Plan of the European Union and its role in promoting in-depth cooperation between China's scientific research and Europe. At the same time, European research institutions and manufacturers had a deeper understanding of China's network technology and application fields. After many efforts, the China EU advanced network technology meeting and exhibition had achieved the expected goal and achieved a complete success.
