On February 16, 2020, CERNET collaborated with ZOOM to launch an online teaching service supporting colleges and universities with the zoom video conference platform and service (zoom.edu.cn). During the COVID-19, there is no charge and no time limit, which made a great contribution to online teaching and learning.
CERNET as the important information infrastructure of national education and scientific research, quickly established an expert guidance group and working group to best understand how to quickly support the application of teaching and scientific research informatization while maintaining the basic network guarantee work with high quality. On the basis of a full comparative analysis of various online teaching and research systems, CERNET took advantage of the Internet and technology to collaborate with ZOOM. CERNET quickly launched a large-scale ZOOM online conference service for university teachers and students and deployed other online teaching and research platforms.
CERNET collaborated with ZOOM to launch the ZOOM online conference platform and service. It also has the following special advantages: first, priority network and system resource guarantee, based on CERNET’s high-speed backbone network and smooth interconnection at home and abroad, supporting high concurrency, and can be expanded at any time; second, thoughtful technology and user service guarantee, based on the national technology and service of CERNET.com user service system, to provide timely technical training and user services for university users; third, the broad potential of information application and system integration, to further support the deepening development of university informatization.
Currently, zoom.edu.cn can only be used by teachers and students in universities. It is reported that CERNET, as a national key information infrastructure and an important information infrastructure for national education and scientific research, will make use of its network resources and technical advantages to actively explore collaborate with more excellent online conference service platforms, build a wider e-learning technology service platform, and provide more choices for universities to satisfy the demands of online teaching and scientific research.
