Recently, the National Supercomputer Center in Guangzhou opened the 10G next-generation Internet IPv6 bandwidth to the China Education and Research Computer Network CERNET, and further cooperated with CERNET.
National Supercomputer Center in Guangzhou
The National Supercomputer Center in Guangzhou is a major technological innovation platform deployed by the country during the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" period. With the support of the Ministry of Science and Technology, it is jointly constructed by the People's Government of Guangdong Province, the People's Government of Guangzhou Municipal, National University of Defense Technology and Sun Yat-sen University. The Guangzhou Supercomputer center is designed to carry out major scientific research and to support national and regional economic and social development. Focusing on the "Tianhe-2" supercomputer to promote the deep integration of high-performance computing and big data, the center has meticulously created five supporting platforms for scientific research, discipline construction, exchanges and cooperation, technological innovation and talent training. The NSC advocates "openness, cooperation, collaboration and Innovation", strives to achieve a series of landmark results, and finally to create a world-class supercomputer center with Chinese characteristics.
The National Supercomputer Center is located in the East Campus of Sun Yat-sen University in the beautiful Guangzhou University Town, with a total construction area of 42,332 square meters (5 floors above ground, about 32,332 square meters), of which the computer room and ancillary rooms are about 17,500 square meters. These rooms contain the host room, storage room, high and low voltage power distribution room, cooling equipment room and auxiliary room and other functional rooms.
The Guangzhou Supercomputer Center will be focusing on applications such as weather and climate, aerospace, biomedicine, industrial design, new energy, new materials and other scientific and engineering computing, cloud computing, and big data processing. The Guangzhou Supercomputer Center provides cost-effective computing and storage solutions, the rental of computing, storage and software resources, and the development and technical support of massively parallel application software.
The host machine of Guangzhou Supercomputer Center-"Tianhe-2" supercomputer system is a landmark achievement of a major project of the National Twelfth Five-Year 863 Plan. The peak computing speed of the first phase of "Tianhe-2" reached 1.007 billion calculations per second, with the continuous computing speed reaching 614 billion calculations per second, the total memory capacity was about 3PB, and the total global storage capacity was about 19PB. The peak computing speed, continuous computing speed and comprehensive technical level allowed "Tianhe-2" to be in an internationally leading position, which is a major progress in the development of Chinese supercomputer technology.
Hand in hand with CERNET to make new achievements
The large-bandwidth access of Guangzhou Supercomputer Center to CERNET2 is intended to leverage the network and technical advantages of CERNET and the resource advantages of the National Supercomputer Center to provide a wide range of services for major education and scientific research projects, and promote R&D and innovation in the education field. As a result, users who connect to the Guangzhou Supercomputer Center via CERNET and CERNET2 will have the best network experience.
So far, the Guangzhou Supercomputer Center has been used by 50 institutions including Tsinghua University, Peking University, Sun Yat-sen University, South China University of Technology, Guangzhou University, Guangdong University of Technology, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Beijing Normal University, Zhejiang University, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences involving disciplines such as computer science, chemistry, biology, marine environments, medicine, materials, and energy.
In the future, CERNET and CERNET Networks Co., Ltd. will continue to provide the highest level of support for the National Supercomputer Center. The two organizations working together will expand the depth and breadth of cooperation, and give full play to CERNET Network's nationwide marketing platform so that the National Supercomputer Center can play greater value in the field of education and scientific research, and allow education users to enjoy more resource services. At the same time, with the support of education network security technology, it will effectively solve various problems encountered by education access users, provide routing solutions suitable for different users, and further improve the end-user experience.
