CERNET deepens cooperation with Changsha Supercomputing Center to jointly build Hunan Education Network

2021-02-07

In 2021, China Education and Research Network CERNET will further deepen the cooperation with the National Supercomputer Center in Changsha, and jointly build Hunan Education Private Network. Utilising the Changsha Supercomputer as the core node, CERNET will be connected to access units of the education industry within Hunan province, including the Information Center of the Education Department, the Education Examination Institute, undergraduate colleges, and some higher vocational colleges and basic education schools of Hunan Province. During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, Hunan Education Private Network will rely on the Changsha Supercomputer center to build the platform for scientific computing, simulation, geographic information, building information modeling (BIM) and artificial intelligence software covering all schools, administrative institutions and scientific research institutions in the education industry in the province. It will efficiently serve the scientific research of colleges and universities and the reform of the 1+X certificate system for higher vocational education, reduce the hardware and software investment of colleges and universities in the province, and improve the level of education and scientific research of Hunan province.

Relying on the network and technical advantages of CERNET and the computing power of the Changsha Supercomputer center, the Hunan Education Private Network can effectively guarantee the data transmission rate, quality and safety, enhance the network experience of the rapidly increasing number of supercomputing users, and support education, scientific research innovation. This will also support the national high-performance computing development strategy, foster talent and support the construction of an innovative country.

In the future, , creating a "supercomputing highway", and jointly promoting the construction of the national high-performance computing environment core resource network with Changsha Supercomputer center, and striving to achieve a national supercomputing network.

About the National Supercomputer Center in Changsha

The National Supercomputer Center in Changsha is the third national supercomputer center formally approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology. It is located at the foot of the Xiangshui River, in the core area of the Yuelu Mountain National University Science and Technology City, and the southern campus of Hunan University. Changsha Center owns the "Tianhe Tianma" artificial intelligence computing cluster and many other computing platforms. The peak computing performance is 10PFlops, with a  memory capacity is 2PB, and a total disk capacity of 20PB. Changsha center has deployed an active node for domain name root mirroring server and an active node for national top-level domain name resolution. It supports the integration of multiple networks such as telecommunications, China Mobile, China Unicom, and education network, and supports a wide range of commercial software, open-source software and self-developed software. CERNET will provide the Changsha Supercomputer center with 100G next-generation Internet IPv6 bandwidth allowing a high- quality connection to all users of this new facility.
