On April 27 2020, the experts of typical cases activities of the China Higher Education Expo 2020, the "University-Enterprise Collaboration, Hundreds Talents Program" (abbreviated as Hundreds Talents Program) went to Peking University to visit CARSI - the "Education Network Federal Certification and Resource Sharing Infrastructure".

Zengping Wang, vice president of the North China Electric Power University, and leader of the experts, presented the nomination certificate of typical scientific and technological collaboration cases of "Hundreds Talents Program" to the Computing Center of Peking University.

Ping Chen, director of the information security office of the Computing Center of Peking University, introduced CARSI, which provides federal authentication and global academic information resource sharing services for those universities and research institutions that have enabled identity authentication on their network. CERNET Network Center is the management unit, Computing Center of Peking University is the leading unit, and CERNET.com is the supporting unit. As one of the basic services of CERNET, CARSI aims at serving teaching and scientific research, by "building multiple colleges and universities at one time, benefiting from the team cooperation, and promoting the informatization development of colleges and universities".

Ping Chen noted that during the COVID-19 period, both Peking University and CERNET.com experts both used their respective advantages in platform, technology, market and other aspects. With the trust and support of university users, the CARSI service, as a "sharp tool" for academic resource access, has been developed on a large scale, effectively supporting the idea of "keep teaching, keep learning". As of April 27, 2021, CARSI provides services to 580 universities, gathering 169 resource products from 56 service providers, covering all 13 first-class disciplines. 

CARSI is a secure and convenient technology providing access to all kinds of resources independent of time, location and operating system. CARSI has adopted Shibboleth middleware, which conforms to international standards and provides a secure, private connection. . In addition, the CARSI service adheres to the concept of "co-construction and sharing", accumulates rich experience in construction, technology, operation and maintenance, and effectively promotes the cultivation of professional and technical talents and teamwork. Under the normalization of epidemic prevention and control, the CARSI service is seeking to expand its range of resources, strive for more inclusive policies for colleges and universities, and help to advance the technological innovation of colleges and universities.


Bei Zhang shares the service of CARSI in Tsinghua University

As a user representative, Bei Zhang from Tsinghua University Library shared the use of CARSI service at the Tsinghua University Library, and fully affirmed the role of CARSI during the epidemic period. She discussed how CARSI has interacted with the unified identity authentication system of colleges and universities, allowing teachers and students on and off campus to visit the library's electronic resources, bringing readers a more stable and intuitive user experience, and also providing a convenient way for library managers to configure and manage electronic resources. She said that the development of the CARSI service benefited from the technical accumulation of Peking University team for many years, its own technology and platform advantages, and the strong support of IDP and SP, the resource service provider of universities. She hoped that CARSI service can be further developed and promoted to provide still better services for universities.
